Which Car Needs Your Attention Today? An Irish Dealer Pricing Checklist
The useful morning question is not whether every car has a number beside it. It is which car deserves your attention today. A stock dashboard earns its place when it helps you find that car, inspect the evidence and make a decision you can explain.
Start with a small set of stock you know well. Enter the current mileage and your actual advertised cash price, then compare the market estimates with the adverts behind them. This gives you a reference point for judging the tool before you rely on it across the forecourt.
Look at exceptions first
Separate cars with a failed or pending valuation from cars that have a usable estimate. A missing result is a request for investigation, not a market value of zero. Next, review stock advertised noticeably above its estimate. In CarValue Dealers, the review filter includes asking prices more than 5% above the latest estimate; that is a starting flag, not an instruction to reduce the price.
Open the evidence before moving the sticker
Check the year, engine, gearbox, mileage and body of the comparable adverts. Then look at their seller descriptions and what preparation is included. A well-equipped, documented example may reasonably sit above a broad comparison group. Equally, a feature you value highly may not justify the whole premium to the buyer who is browsing today.
Write down the reason for keeping or changing the price. A short note such as "different gearbox in the cheap comparables" is more useful than a vague feeling that the market is wrong. If the estimate seems unsuitable, widen the manual investigation before treating it as a target.
Keep freshness separate from movement
A newer valuation timestamp tells you that the car was checked again. It does not prove the market has changed. A price difference can reflect a different set of available adverts as well as genuine repricing. Read the history alongside the sample and avoid treating a small day-to-day movement as a confirmed change in transaction values.
Make the stock list usable
Mark sold cars so they stop cluttering the active list. Keep mileage and asking prices current. Use favourites for the cars that need follow-up, and export a filtered CSV when you want to discuss stock with someone away from the dashboard. These ordinary housekeeping steps make the next review shorter and more dependable.
Test whether the routine helps your business
Choose a short review period and record time spent, pricing decisions, enquiries and any actual sales you can verify from your own records. More price changes are not automatically a better result. You are looking for decisions supported by better evidence and a routine that saves useful time.
CarValue Dealers includes three cars with daily automatic checks for three days, starting when you add your first car. No card or automatic charge. The dashboard records stock value and price history. Paid plans increase the limit to 30 cars with daily checks or 100 cars with checks every six hours. Use the preview to compare the estimates with cars you understand before deciding whether a subscription earns its place in your own workflow.
