Volkswagen ID.3 vs Tesla Model 3: Two Different Used-EV Shortlists

An ID.3 and a Model 3 can fit the same purchase budget while answering different preferences. Compare the exact car, version and practical fit before turning the difference between asking prices into a verdict.

In the 2020 selected groups, the median asking prices are €17,950 for Volkswagen ID.3 (5 adverts) and €21,950 for Tesla Model 3 (7 adverts). Tesla Model 3 is €4,000 higher in these samples. At least one side has fewer than ten comparisons, so individual advertisements can materially affect the difference.

Medians of the selected pricing cohorts, not final selling prices. Matching reference mileage does not guarantee identical actual mileage bands or specifications. Samples below ten are marked small; incomplete searches or fewer than three matches are not priced.

What this comparison does and does not control

Both cohorts are electric, but they do not hold battery, drivetrain, body configuration, equipment or condition constant. Our comparison describes the observed stock at matched year and reference-mileage points; it does not rank the models' technology or reliability.

Start with your actual requirements

Inspect passenger space, luggage access and the controls you use regularly. Check each car's charging specification and your realistic charging locations. Verify that any advertised software or other paid features are included and applicable to the vehicle being sold.

For buyers: compare the complete purchase

Request battery and history evidence for the actual examples, and confirm any warranty terms. A lower asking price may be attractive, but it cannot resolve whether the car's version and condition suit your use. Use an inspection alongside the market comparison.

For sellers: understand the alternative shortlist

Use exact-version adverts to support your own asking price. The rival model is useful context for what buyers can spend elsewhere, but a broad median difference is not a fixed premium you can add to or subtract from an individual car.

Turn the gap into a useful decision

Keep the asking-price difference separate from the cost of any known work and from your running-cost assumptions. If you estimate annual savings, label the consumption, distance and price assumptions so that changing one does not silently change the conclusion.

These are cross-sectional asking-price samples gathered on one date. They are not completed sales, a reliability ranking or a forecast of what either car will be worth next year. Use a current, exact-car comparison and an inspection before committing money.
