Volkswagen Passat Prices in Ireland 2026: The Quiet Bargain Executive
The Passat is the car Ireland's motorway miles are done in, and now that new saloon supply has dried up it has become something quietly interesting: a lot of comfortable, long-legged car for the money, in a market that is slowly running out of them. These numbers come from independent CarValue valuation runs on 22 July 2026 against live Irish listings.
What a Passat is actually worth right now
| Typical car | Quick sale | Fair market | Optimistic |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 diesel, ~180,000 km | €8,800 | €10,000 | €11,100 |
| 2018 diesel, ~120,000 km | €19,600 | €21,200 | €22,400 |
| 2020 diesel, ~80,000 km | €24,000 | €25,100 | €26,000 |
Independent CarValue valuation runs, 22 July 2026, against live Irish listings. Cohorts here are thinner than a Golf's (7 to 10 comparables per row) - the model is ageing out of the market, and pricing gets more sensitive to individual condition as that happens.
The surprising 2018 step
The jump from €10,000 at 2015/180,000 km to €21,200 at 2018/120,000 km is bigger than the equivalent Golf step. Two things drive it: the mid-life facelift landed better equipment as standard, and the pool of clean, sensible-mileage Passats shrank as taxi and hackney work absorbed the rest. A genuinely tidy 2018 is scarcer than the badge suggests, and scarce means firm.
Estate money and taxi history
The estate carries a real premium over the saloon at every age - family buyers and trade buyers compete for it. On the other side, this is one of Ireland's most common ex-taxi cars: a 2018 with 300,000 km of city work belongs far below the 120,000 km band above, and disclosed history is the difference between a fair sale and a comeback.
If you are buying or selling one
Buyers: this is arguably the most car per euro on this site's guides - the 2020 cohort gives you a big, quiet, motorway-fit saloon for mid-twenties money. Check DSG service history where fitted and treat AdBlue system faults as a price negotiation, not a walk-away. Sellers: with cohorts this thin your ad photos and history file matter more than on any deep-supply car; a well-documented Passat can genuinely reach the optimistic band because the buyer has nowhere else to go.
