Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs Hyundai Tucson Diesel: An Irish Budget Comparison
A RAV4 hybrid and a Tucson diesel can be realistic alternatives for a buyer with a fixed budget. Their asking-price difference needs to be read alongside powertrain choice, specification and the individual car's condition.
In the 2022 selected groups, the median asking prices are €36,950 for Toyota RAV4 (41 adverts) and €26,950 for Hyundai Tucson (39 adverts). Toyota RAV4 is €10,000 higher in these samples.

What this comparison does and does not control
This deliberately compares conventional-hybrid RAV4 research with diesel Tucson research. It does not establish a universal hybrid premium, because the models and their advertised specifications differ as well as the fuel systems.
The evidence behind the medians
2020 Toyota RAV4: 22 pricing adverts, 75k-105k km (±15k); 22 dealer and 0 private. Advertised engines: 2.5 L (21), not stated (1).
2020 Hyundai Tucson: the search was incomplete. No numerical median is used for this side of the comparison.
2022 Toyota RAV4: 41 pricing adverts, 45k-75k km (±15k); 39 dealer and 2 private. Advertised engines: 2.4 L (1), 2.5 L (40).
2022 Hyundai Tucson: 39 pricing adverts, 45k-75k km (±15k); 38 dealer and 1 private. Advertised engines: 1.6 L (39).
Start with your actual requirements
Write down how you will use the car and what fuel or charging routine you are prepared to adopt. Calculate running costs with your own annual distance and realistic consumption assumptions. Do not assume a higher purchase price will automatically be recovered through fuel savings.
For buyers: compare the complete purchase
Check the exact hybrid subtype on the RAV4 and the engine and gearbox on the Tucson. Inspect the records and any applicable cover for the actual vehicles. Compare the space and equipment you need rather than treating all family SUVs as interchangeable.
For sellers: understand the alternative shortlist
The rival's adverts help explain what else a buyer can choose, but they are not direct comparables for your car. Build the asking-price argument from relevant same-model stock and use the cross-model comparison to understand the broader budget decision.
Turn the gap into a useful decision
Keep the asking-price difference separate from the cost of any known work and from your running-cost assumptions. If you estimate annual savings, label the consumption, distance and price assumptions so that changing one does not silently change the conclusion.
These are cross-sectional asking-price samples gathered on one date. They are not completed sales, a reliability ranking or a forecast of what either car will be worth next year. Use a current, exact-car comparison and an inspection before committing money.
