Volkswagen Passat value in Ireland
The Passat that trades in volume in Ireland is diesel: the B7 generation from 2010 to 2014 and the B8 from 2015 onwards, almost always as a 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI saloon. Petrol Passats are rare on Irish roads and can take longer to sell, while the GTE plug-in hybrid is a small but growing niche that appeals to urban family buyers.
The model's discontinuation is the story now. Volkswagen ended Passat saloon production, and the current generation is estate-only, in a market where Irish buyers overwhelmingly chose the saloon. That leaves no new equivalent for the traditional Passat customer, which tends to support demand for clean later B8 saloons. Highline and R-Line trims hold their value best; entry Trendline cars compete mostly on price.
Buyer demand comes from families, rural drivers and the hackney and taxi trade, all of whom value space and running costs over image. That makes the Passat unusually tolerant of higher mileage, provided the service history is complete, and DSG gearbox and timing belt records get particular attention. A fresh NCT and a documented history often matter more to a Passat buyer than the year on the plate.
